Have you ever wanted to learn more about how Google determines which websites to put on page one of the search engine results? You’ve most likely heard about Search Engine Optimization aka SEO. While you may have a general understanding of what SEO is, do you know what the 200+ ranking factors are that Google uses in its algorithm?

In this series I’m going to be covering each of the known and speculated ranking factors and describing what it means for you, the website owner. These will be easy to read articles that will give you a better understanding of how Google determines which sites it feels is relevant to serve people searching online.

Who actually has the full list of ranking factors?

The only company to have a 100% accurate list of ranking factors is Google. That being said, there is a wealth of information that has been gathered throughout the years that provides information that has either been confirmed by Google or through testing, has been proven to be effective and most likely a ranking factor.

Feel free to enjoy the video and make sure to take notes on each of the topics. While there may be 200+ ranking factors, there are really just a few basic things to focus on when thinking about how to SEO optimize your website.

Foundation of SEO

  • Well coded website that you own
  • Performs well in the browser by loading in less than 2 seconds
  • Full of Quality Content with a word count higher than 500 and ideally around 1,000 words per page or article
  • Fresh quality content added frequently to the site. Try for at least once per week
  • High user engagement with low bounce rate
  • Shared on Social media

Now the list above is a very short list when compared to Google’s 200 plus ranking factors but remember, there’s the foundation of a website’s SEO and then there is everything else. The list above is the foundation.
