WordPress Development Tutorial – The WordPress Core

Do you want to take a deep dive into the WordPress Core and learn what’s happening under the hood? In the video below, I will be giving you a WordPress Development Tutorial by dissecting The WordPress Core and seeing what’s changed in WordPress Version 4.7.2 from 4.7.1.

This is a great way to learn how to become a WordPress Developer since you will get a chance to analyze the WordPress Core files, folders and see what has changed from one version to the next. I use various tools when I’m researching code and building my themes and websites. Over the years I have compiled a tool-set that works well for me.

Here are the Tools & Resources I use for this demonstration:

By following the steps that I provide for you, you’ll learn how to become a better WordPress Developer and better secure your WordPress themes, Plugins and you may eventually become a WordPress Core Contributor. I say this because by analyzing the core files & code used for the WordPress software, you will get a greater understanding of how it all works. Over time, you will find yourself finding ways to use what you learn, in your own projects.

In the video, I show you how to use the free diff checker called Meld Merge which will scan entire directories for changes and differences. This is a more efficient way to analyze large projects versus manually scanning files line by line.

I personally study the core files of WordPress and I also use the Meld Merge Diff Checker on themes & plugins when I want to see what’s changed from one version to the next.

WordPress Security

This is also a great way to see if any code was injected into your WordPress files or folders. I will frequently scan my WordPress Installation to see if there were any unauthorized changes made. Fortunately, my website has withstood various attacks but I know that any website can get hacked when someone who is knowledgeable and has the right resources, motivation and time targets you. That’s why keeping proper backups, using security plugins, following security best practices and staying current on cybersecurity, is a must.
