How to Install WordPress
In this tutorial we will show you how to manually install WordPress onto your Web Server which is the hosting account you have. These steps are for a manual installation. Most web hosts have a one click install that makes the process easier but sometimes it’s a good idea to learn how to do it manually.
Download the WordPress Installation Package from WordPress.org. We recommend that you always install the latest version of WordPress since it will have addressed any known issues and include new functionality.
Upload WordPress files to your Server using FTP software. The FTP client we recommend is Filezilla since it’s cross platform compatible. It works on OS X, Windows and Linux.
Note: Make sure to install the WordPress Software in the /public_html folder if you want your website to be www.example.com.
Create a MySQL Database to connect to WordPress. Once you’ve created your MySQL Database and User, make sure you write down the database name, database username and password. You will need those for the installation process.
Run the installation process by visiting your website url which will be like www.example.com or example.com which ever style you chose. There you will be given prompts to create your configuration file.
You will need your
- Database Name – This is your MySQL Database name
- User Name – This is your MySQL Database username
- Password – This is your MySQL Database password
- Database Host – Typically this is localhost
- Table Prefix – Here we recommend changing the prefix to something unique
- Then click the submit button.
WordPress will now check if your settings are correct. If you have entered all the proper information, you will see a confirmation screen. Press the Run the Install button to move forward.
On the next screen you will have to enter the information about your admin username and the title of your new site. We highly recommend choosing a unique username. Also make sure to use a strong password and then make sure to let the search engines index your site.
Then click the Install WordPress Button.
Congrats now you will be able to login to the backend of your website which is at the url www.example.com/wp-admin or example.com/wp-admin
